Annie Doherty born Feb 1914 the first child of John Doherty and Rose (nee Bonner) died last Saturday. Her family lived in Lisnatunny so she went to school in Newtownstewart, and was taught by the Miss Fishers. She went to Strabane Convent (1927) and to the Teacher Training college (St. Mary’s Belfast). After graduation she spent 4 or 5 years in temporary posts till she got a job in Gallon, and later in Liscreevy Primary Schools, and moved to Newtownstwart (Dates not known) where she taught mainly the First Holy Communion classes for about 30 years. Her self respect, sense of responsibility and dedication to and fair treatment of all her pupils are qualities that made a deep impression on all who knew her. May she Rest in Peace
